A chain reaction on Lake Como

Designing a team building for a digital healthcare service that works remotely

Carol Health offers a trusted doctor reachable by phone, anytime, without ever going to a clinic. We took them to Villa Dandelion, on Lake Como, and for one day the team took care of itself: a company meeting and lunch together, then an afternoon of in-person team building. At the center, a chain reaction inspired by Rube Goldberg machines, built by hand, group by group: each team designed a path where a ball triggers a series of concatenated actions all the way to the finish line, with no assigned roles or written instructions.

Care is also practiced on those who provide it

A chain reaction works only if each piece does its part at the right moment, without knowing in advance what the others will do. It's the same trust a distributed team needs to work well even without seeing each other every day. An afternoon at Villa Dandelion was enough to make it visible.
